Getting to Birmingham Airport

Birmingham Airport, located in the heart of England, is the UK's seventh busiest airport. With over 12 million passengers passing through its terminals each year, it is an important gateway for both domestic and international travel.

  • Train: Birmingham Airport airport is well-connected to the local rail network, with trains running regularly from Birmingham International Station, which is just a short walk from the terminal building. The journey to Birmingham New Street Station, the city's main rail hub, takes just over 10 minutes. From there, passengers can catch trains to destinations across the UK, including London, Manchester, and Edinburgh.

  • Travelling by bus: The National Express West Midlands operates several routes that serve the airport, including the 900 and 97 services. The 900 runs between Birmingham Airport and the city centre, with stops at key locations such as New Street Station and the Bullring shopping centre. The 97 service, on the other hand, connects the airport to Solihull, a town located to the southeast of Birmingham. You may also consider the Birmingham Airport Express bus. This is a dedicated shuttle service that runs between the airport and the city centre, with stops at several key locations including New Street Station, the Bullring shopping centre, and the University of Birmingham. The bus runs every 10-20 minutes and the journey takes approximately 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Tickets can be purchased on board or in advance online, and prices start at just £6 for a single journey.

  • Coach: If you are travelling in a group of 9 or more, it's likely coach hire would be a sensible idea, saving you money and ensuring you all get to the airport together on time. Use our coach hire comparison service to find the best deal in your area, or, see our coach hire in Birmingham page.

  • Taxi: For those looking for a more private transfer, there are several taxi and minicab companies that operate at Birmingham Airport. These companies offer a range of vehicles including saloon cars, MPVs, and minibuses to accommodate groups of all sizes. Prices will vary depending on the size of the vehicle and the distance to the destination, but expect to pay around £20-£30 for a journey to the city center. Taxis are also readily available at the airport, with several companies operating dedicated ranks outside the terminal building. Passengers can either pre-book a taxi in advance or hail one on the spot. The journey to Birmingham city centre takes around 20 minutes, depending on traffic.

  • Car: For those travelling by car, Birmingham Airport is easily accessible from the M42 motorway. The airport has its own exit, marked "Birmingham Airport," which leads directly to the terminal building. There is also a long-stay car park located just a short distance from the terminal, with regular shuttle bus services to and from the building. To travel to Birmingham Airport, you can use the following roads:

  1. From the north or south, take the M6 motorway and exit at Junction 6 for the A38. Follow the A38 for approximately 6 miles and take the exit for Birmingham Airport.

  2. From the east, take the A45 and follow signs for Birmingham Airport. Take the exit for the terminal and follow the signs to the designated parking area.

  3. From the west, take the M5 motorway and exit at Junction 4A for the A38. Follow the A38 for approximately 10 miles and take the exit for Birmingham Airport.

  4. Once you are close to the airport, follow the signs for "Airport Arrivals" or "Airport Departures" to find the appropriate terminal.

  • Meet & Greet: In addition to these options, the airport also offers a "meet and greet" service for passengers arriving by car. This service allows passengers to drop their car off at the terminal building, where it will be collected by a member of the airport's staff and parked in a secure car park. The car will then be returned to the terminal in time for the passenger's departure.

Birmingham Airport has a range of transport options to suit the needs of different travellers. Whether by train, bus, taxi, or car, getting to and from the airport is easy and convenient.
