Getting to Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh Airport, located in the city of Edinburgh, Scotland, is a busy international airport that serves over 14 million passengers each year. With its convenient location and various transportation options, getting to and from the airport is easy and stress-free. Edinburgh Airport offers a variety of transfer options to suit the needs of travellers. Whether it is the convenience of the bus or tram, the comfort of a taxi, the affordability of a shuttle service, the flexibility of a rental car, or the convenience of the Meet and Greet service, there is an option for everyone.

  • Bus: One of the most popular and convenient options for Edinburgh Airport transfers is the Airport Bus Service, operated by Lothian Buses. This bus service runs every 10-20 minutes from the airport to the city centre, with stops at popular destinations such as Waverley Bridge, Princes Street, and Edinburgh Bus Station. The bus fare is reasonably priced at £4.50 for a single journey or £7.50 for a return trip.

  • Coach: If you are travelling in a group of 9 or more, it's likely coach hire would be a sensible idea, saving you money and ensuring you all get to the airport together on time. Use our coach hire comparison service to find the best deal in your area, or, see our coach hire in Edinburgh page.

  • Tram: Edinburgh Tram runs from the airport to the city centre and beyond. The tram operates every 7-8 minutes during peak hours and every 15 minutes during off-peak hours. The tram fare is £5.50 for a single journey or £8.50 for a return trip.

  • Taxi: Taxis can be found at the designated taxi rank outside the airport terminal and fares start at £25 for a one-way trip to the city centre. It is important to note that prices may vary depending on the time of day and traffic conditions.

  • The Edinburgh Shuttle: a shared-ride shuttle service that operates between the airport and various locations in the city. The shuttle fare is £6 per person for a one-way trip and reservations can be made in advance online or at the shuttle desk in the airport terminal.

  • Car rental: For those travelling with a large group or with a lot of luggage, there are several car rental companies located at Edinburgh Airport. These companies offer a variety of vehicles to choose from, including economy cars, minivans, and SUVs. Renting a car allows for flexibility and convenience, but it is important to consider the cost of petrol and parking fees in the city. To get to the airport by car: 1. From the north or south, take the M90 motorway and exit at Junction 1A for the A90. Follow the A90 for approximately 4 miles and take the exit for Edinburgh Airport. 2. From the east, take the A1 or A720 and follow signs for the A8/M8. Take the exit for Edinburgh Airport and follow the signs for the terminal. 3. From the west, take the M8 motorway and exit at Junction 1 for the A8. Follow the signs for Edinburgh Airport and take the exit for the terminal. 4. Alternatively, you can take the A8/M8 and exit at the Newbridge junction. Follow the signs for Edinburgh Airport and take the exit for the terminal. 5. Once you are close to the airport, follow the signs for "Airport Arrivals" or "Airport Departures" to find the appropriate terminal.

In addition to these transportation options, Edinburgh Airport also offers a convenient Meet and Greet service. This service allows passengers to have their car picked up and parked at the airport while they are away, and then returned to them upon their return. This is a great option for those who do not want to worry about parking at the airport or navigating public transportation with heavy luggage.
